"Just in Case" summary

"Just in Case", written by Meg Rosoff, tells about the changing of David Cases' life after saving his little brother Charlie from falling out of the window and the problems a pseudosafe life brings with itself.
When David saves his one-year-old brother Charlie from falling out the bedroom window, he realizes that every time and everywhere catastrophes can happen and decides to become unrecognizable. Ailed of feelings of guilt David changes his name from David Case into Justin Case and is sure that nothing can happen to Justin Case, because Justin Case doesn't exist. At school everyone, except his only friend Peter, laughs at him. Justin joins the cross-country team to run his thoughts away and also coins an imaginary greyhound named Boy, which is his true attendant. He can hear what his brother Charlie is telling him with his gazes and also fate is talking to him, so Justin gets more and more frightened of fate and death. When Justin goes to a nearby charity shop, he gets to know the extravagant dressed photograph Agnes. She loves to photograph Justin and they become friends. But fate doesn't mean it well with Justin, so many disasters that make him feel doomed, happen. When he falls in love with Agnes the bad luck slowly takes its course...
