The book is written by Carol Lynch Williams and it's about a girl called Kyra that lives in a polygamous community.
Kyra Leigh Carlson has three mothers and twenty brothers and sisters. She lives in a compound near Ironton.
Their parents, the prophet and the apostles tell her to be obedient to god and to do everything the god squad tells them. One day the prophet and the apostles come to the trailer of Kyra’s family and choose Kyra to marry her 60-year-old uncle. Of course she doesn’t want to marry him and she thinks about running away from her compound. That’s not that easy. But when she meets a boy, Joshua, she thinks about marrying him. But that’s not what she reaches. One day Kyra is brought to the temple and she sits in a small room with Joshua and both get punished there for being disobedient. Finally Kyra is fed up of the compound and the prophet. She decides to escape with the “Ironton County Mobile Library on Wheels” which drives past her compound every Wednesday. Its driver Patrick takes Kyra with him but they get caught and Patrick gets killed. A few days later Kyra tries to escape alone, she gets to the Ironton county line and she’s free.
