The book "Thirteen reasons why" by Jay Asher is about Clay Jensen, a student who lives in an American town, who got a box with 7 casette tapes (thirteen sides) inside. The tapes in the box are recorded by Hannah Baker, his old classmate who committed suicide two weeks earlier.
When Clay opens the box and plays the first tape in his old ghetto blaster he hears Hannah's voice speaking.
Hannah on the first tape:
"I hope you're ready, because I'm about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended. And if you're listening to the tapes, you're one of the reasons why."
Clay crisscrosses through the night listening to the tapes and Hannah's voice explaining her reasons. On each side of a tape she explains why this one person is a reason for her suicide. She also puts a little map into the box and marks a few places where she lives to see her adventures. So Clay goes to these places during listening to Hanna's voice, in order to understand her horrible feelings better. Clay gets aware, that Hannah didn't kill herself to get attention from others but rather she killed herself cause' she wants to end her misery that people spread bad rumours about her.
I won't tell you why Clay is a reason, cause' there must be a bit of thrill to read the book. ;)
