The Book „The Hunger Games“ is about a sixteen-year-old girl in the near future, where bloody Reality-TV-Shows are taking place.
Katniss Everdeen is sixteen years old. She lives in District 12 in Panem. Panem was founded after natural catastrophes destroyed North-America. Her father died in a mine accident, so she has to live with her mother and her sister Prim. They’re very poor and Katniss has to hunt every day with bow and arrow in the near woods. Her best friend is Gale. He lives in the woods and they hunt together.
Every Year one girl and one boy is picked from the game makers into an arena and they have to fight each other. It’s called the Hunger Games and it’s a TV-Reality-Show. There is only one rule: "kill or be killed."
This year Katniss‘ younger sister Prim is chosen, but Katniss steps forward to take Prims place in the Game. The other „Tribute“ is Peeta, an old schoolfriend.
While the Game is running there is a rule change: The two „Tributes“ from the same District can win.
