Laurie Halse Anderson was born 23th October 1961 in northern New York. She joined school there and started to write her own books early.
Her first books were picture stories, colourfull and funny books for children.
It semed fun to her to write these books and she still loves it today.
With her funny picture stories about the history of America she became known all over the country and joined the SCBWI (Society of children's book writers and illustrators).
With "Speak" Laurie won the first big prizes and became very popular all over the world.
They even made a film out of "Speak" with Twilight star Kristen Stewart as Melinda.
Other great books like "Wintergirls" followed and were translated in many different languages.
Today Laurie lives in northern New York with her four children, her husband Scot and her dog.
